Team 18 drivers Mark Winterbottom and Scott Pye have rolled out with top ten pace after two practice sessions at Sydney Motorsport Park.

The first 30-minute hit out was held in the afternoon in warm conditions with a strong headwind down the main straight. Winterbottom’s last lap effort put him fourth fastest in the IRWIN Racing Commodore, while Pye encountered some teething issues in the DEWALT car in 21st.

As day turned into night, the cars rolled out for Practice 2 at 7:30pm. Pye got out at the last minute for his green tyre run, crossing the line a second before the chequered flag fell. His last lap elevated him to seventh fastest, with Winterbottom 13th in the second session.

Team 18 will next hit the track for qualifying at 3:35pm on Saturday, ahead of Race 20 of the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship at 7:10pm AEDT.

All the action can be viewed live on free-to-air on Channel 7 as well as Fox Sports, and also available on the 7Plus and Kayo streaming services. Check your local guides for further details.

Mark Winterbottom – driver #18 IRWIN Racing Holden ZB Commodore

“We had two parts to the day, one session in the afternoon heat with full wind and one in the night under lights.

“Overall it was a good day, we need to improve the car a bit more at night, I think we’re more competitive in the day, but we’ll tune it up and go again tomorrow.

“It was so much fun driving around here under lights. Sydney Motorsport Park have done a great job here, it’s even more lit up compared to last year.

“The spectacle is fantastic and it really challenges you as a driver to concentrate a bit more in the dark.
