Mark Winterbottom has piloted his first laps in the #18 Holden Commodore at Queensland Raceway this morning.

The handover test follows the Commodore’s Release from Triple Eight Engineering where some of the IRWIN Racing Crew last week worked alongside Triple Eight staff on the 888A-048 chassis.

Winterbottom wore his Race Suit from his time in Brazilian Stock Car Racing prior to the full IRWIN Racing Livery Reveal in February.

Winterbottom took the track for his first of ten laps at Queensland Raceway just before 9AM and wrapped up his time on the track before 10AM.

Despite the limited track time, Winterbottom believes the car was comfortable and felt confident in the Commodore.

“Today was good, it was a little tease of what’s to come. We got 10 laps which includes in and out laps so essentially 4 timed laps. I felt things in the car that are new to me and the team found some as well because they haven’t had this spec of car in 2 years. There are some things that feel nice and things that we can tidy up after a test day but it feels comfortable. I’m ready to go, it’s a bit cruel to make us wait now!”

Team Owner Charlie Schwerkolt also attended the Shakedown at the Ipswich SuperSprint venue and was excited to see Frosty in the Number 18 for the first time.

The team will now return to the Mount Waverley Garage to continue to prep the car and work on ergonomics such as the seat and steering wheel in preparation for their Phillip Island Test on the 14th of February.

“Really really pumped, it has been a special day! As everyone knows, it has been a tough couple of years but now to have Frosty in the car is a big moment for me and our team. Triple Eight Engineering have been absolutely fantastic with their assistance, the relationship we have is really strong and I know it’s is going to work. I think Frosty is really excited about the car and he feels comfortable in it, it is different of course but I think he’ll take to it quickly, he is a real professional. Overall I’m really pumped, I can’t wait to get to the test, get some good miles in the car, see what we’ve got and then bring on Adelaide!”

IRWIN Racing will now prepare for the Superloop Adelaide 500 for Round 1 of the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, to be held on 28 February – 3 March with all races to be televised LIVE on Fox Sports.
