Mark Winterbottom and Steve Richards have completed their first test laps in the #18 IRWIN Racing Holden at Phillip Island Raceway today.
Winterbottom was pleased with the Supercars Test Day and believes the team is in a good position heading into the season opener.
Running around the P10 mark for the majority of the day, the team faced an issue with the Pit Lane Limiter and Winterbottom’s final laps went un-rewarded on the time sheets.
IRWIN Racing finished P16 in the Official Test Day timing with a lap time of 1:31.4303.
“We had a pretty good day, we lost our pace a little in the middle of the day but our Race runs were really strong. We had a little issue with the car handling but we got through our program and we could repeat our times which was good. The Pit Limiter was stuck on in our final laps so we didn’t get our happy hour lap with everyone so our final position probably isn’t a true reflection of our day. Everything feels alright and although we had a few little dramas we can iron them out before Adelaide, overall it was an exciting day with the team and we can work on the car and come out stronger at Round 1.”
Co-Driver Steve Richards also got behind the wheel of the team’s new Triple Eight Engineering Commodore today, a car that is very familiar to him.
“Awesome to have the first run of the Team 18 Commodore, I’m lucky that it’s basically the car I’ve been driving for the last 5 years. It was a great day, it’s always great to get behind the wheel and there was a lot to take away from today because it’s not just about Adelaide, or just about Bathurst, it’s about the whole season and we’re all going to have to get it right to get the results. Today was a good start to 2019!”
IRWIN Racing will now prepare for the Superloop Adelaide 500 for Round 1 of the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, to be held on 28 February – 3 March with all races to be televised LIVE on Fox Sports.
