Race 31 – Position 10

Following a tight Qualifying session on Saturday morning where Winterbottom narrowly missed the Top Ten Shootout, the IRWIN Racing Driver had a tough start to his 500th Supercars Race, dropping into P13.

In the relatively uneventful 95-lap race, Winterbottom climbed to run between P9 and P11 as the team deployed the Number 18 on a two-stop strategy.

Winterbottom struggled with a sticking throttle in his final stint which hampered the end of his race, but managed to bring home the IRWIN Car in P10.

Winterbottom’s top ten result promoted him from 14th to 13th in the Supercars Championship Standings in the midst of a tight battle with 2020 team-mate Scott Pye & Anton De Pasquale for 12th.

Race 32 – Position 14

A tough qualifying session saw Winterbottom finish down the order in P20 after making a mistake on his final run at Turn 11 and returning into traffic on the Newcastle Street Circuit.

Winterbottom was promoted to P17 start with penalties for drivers ahead and had a great start to the final race of the season, climbing 4 positions into P13 by the second corner.

The IRWIN Racing Team opted for a four-stop strategy and was one of the first cars in the lane, but an ill-timed Safety Car for the team meant P14 was the best result Winterbottom could salvage.

Winterbottom’s final race result of 2019 was enough for him clinch 13th in the Supercars Championship Driver Standings.

“Tough races this weekend, was trucking along okay but it was hard to follow cars and get a run on people and we struggled in traffic. Happy with a straight car to finish the year! There’s been a few challenges I didn’t see coming but I’m really proud of the team.” – Mark Winterbottom
