After being crashed out in Race 27 last week at The Bend, Mark Winterbottom rewarded his IRWIN Racing crew with a strong eight place in Race 28 of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship at The Bend.
Winterbottom started seventh after both Team 18 cars qualified inside the top ten for Race 29 with Pye starting ninth.
Winterbottom dropped one spot to Nick Percat off the start, and held eighth position until the pit stop cycle commenced on Lap 5.
Winterbottom rejoined the field after serving his compulsory pit stop on Lap 18 in eighth place ahead of Fabian Coulthard.

Winterbottom and The IRWIN Racing Commodore return to action tomorrow with back-to-back qualifying from 9:10am ACST. Race 29 will commence at 11:50pm and Race 30 from 2:20pm, live on Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sports.

“I’m really happy today to get a top ten in qualifying with sixth and then to get eighth in the race,” said Winterbottom.
“Our qualifying speed was reasonable and It was great to have some pretty decent pace in the race, our speed right before my stop was really strong.
“A big thanks to the crew who fixed the car after the incident last weekend, they did an amazing job considering the short turnaround and it was great to reward them with a top ten today
“We will go through our data overnight and look for more gains, but I’m just so pumped to get back on track tomorrow.”
